Dunoyer Family
The Dunoyer Family immigrated from Colombia to the United States seeking asylum in 2002. The head of the house Roberto Dunoyer worked as a finance minister for a government program. The reason they left was because the family started receiving threats from the communist guerrilla called the National Liberation Army after they tried extorting him and he refused. After leaving Colombia the threats continued. the family’s asylum case was denied but in 2008 former congressman Duncan Hunter filed private legislation on the family which protected them from deportation. The family of four have been living in the U.S. for over 17 years now. The new immigration changes done by the Trump Administration has led this family to receive notifications of their deportation.

California on Closing Down Detention Centers
California's Governor Gavin Newson signed a bill last Friday that could stop the use of private prisons and immigration detention centers. The law states that California will end their use of these private detention facilities by 2028. The state will also ban the renewing of contracts or signing new contracts after January in 2020. Newsom wanted to put an end to this due to over-incarceration and to stand up for the health, safety and welfare of the people in these centers who are here looking for asylum. ICE states that if the law takes place they will move their detainees out of California which would become more difficult for people to visit their friends and family in custody.

Trumps Proposal on immigration
The Trump Administration has recently announced a proposal they have made to keep Immigrant families detained for a longer period of time. According to the article it states, "President Donald Trump saying it would discourage migrants from coming to the US" (CNN). The reason Trump and his administration is doing this because they believe if they keep immigrants detained longer that It will cause people to loose confidence in immigrating to the United States. He tried to point finger at Obama stating that he was the one responsible for families being separated but it was trumps "Zero tolerance" policy which caused many children to be separated form their families (CNN).

Blog #4 Bernie Sanders Immigration Plan
2020 Democratic Candidate Bernie Sounders wants to put an end to immigration raids, decriminalize crossing the border, and wants to put a pause on deportation. According to The Wall Street Journal, Bernie is highly concerned and is one of the first to bring up this standpoint. He believes that too much immigration is bad and can affect workers in the United States. His stand on this issue is clearly supported by many immigration activists. He stated, “We are going to end the raids which are terrorizing communities all across this country. We are going to impose a moratorium on deportations" (WSJ). With Bernie's stand on immigration he is looking at a lot of latino voters. It is clear that Bernie supports the Latino community. As a latino i see that many people want a change so that some action is taken to stop the pain of many immigrant families in the U.S.

Blog #3 Immigrants with medical issues
Trumps administration have started to deny immigrants pleas who are trying to lengthen their stay in the United States to treat serious medical conditions. For example a girl from Spain named Serena Badia came to the U.S. seeking medical help. Before coming to the U.S. Spanish doctors predicted Serena wouldn't live past 12. She is now 14 and has been working with her for about two years trying to fix her pulmonary artery. Recently they were reached out by immigration told them they have 33 days to leave the country to they risk not being able to return in the future. Joe Biden who is a candidate for the 2020 Presidential Election commented, "We are running out of words to condemn the inhumanity of this administration" (ABC News). I think its very overwhelming to see lost of issues having to do with immigration recently and its crazy to see how many families and lives it is affecting.

Blog #2: Trumps new rule
President Donald Trump and his administration have recently revealed a new rule that has targeted low income immigrants. This new law could potentially decline visas and permanent residency for thousands of impoverished immigrants in the United States. This would reject immigrants temporary and permanent visas for those who do not have a certain enough of income/wealth. Not just that but for those who have received aid such as food stamps, public housing or medicaid. When the rule was announced, the National Immigration Law Center (NILC) communicated that they would file a lawsuit to stop this new rule because they believe that this new rule is “racially motivated”. The state attorneys of New York and California threatened to sue as well. It is clear to see that President Trump and his administration have clear intention of scaring immigrants from using any type of welfare that they are rightfully entitled to.

Coming to America: Chapter One
"Migration" and "immigration" are two terms that get mixed up a lot. The distinction between these two terms is that migration means when someone is moving to another place within the same region. On the other hand Immigration means when someone moves from one country to another. Europeans attitude changed in the Age of discovery because they were not willing to change their ways. Huge European populations came to the new world was to find a faster and cheaper trade, spices and to spread their religious ways. The native American population in 1492 was about 10 million. Many people immigrate or migrate due to "push" and "pull" factors. For example a push factor means the the factor in which pushed them to leave. A pull factor would be on what caught their attention which lead them to migrate or immigrate. The three major immigration myths that most Americans believe is statue of liberty and melting pot.
